Description

This is a wonderful Maki-e picture letter box from the Meiji era. The delicate and precise plum embellishment drawn on black using gold and silver powder mixed with lacquer give the work a sharp and vivid impression. A letter box is a box that is used to store letters and was used by high-ranking literary figures. The metal fittings on the side are also decorated with a silver plum-shaped work, giving it a wonderful accent.
